In Search of Sin’s Sex Toy Review: Mini-Pearl Vibe |
| I’ve been feeling oddly blasé about all things sexual of late. In the past three weeks, I’ve had a plethora of potentially erotic situations arise. I’ve received a steamy e-mail from a reader detailing some extremely arousing situations she and her significant other have been taking part in – situations that would normally have me steaming up my computer monitor in sympathetic lust. Instead I read through it, got an enjoyable little twinge, and then proceeded to read the rest of my other e-mail and forgot all about it. I’ve had a female friend who normally lives a heterosexual lifestyle suggest I help her explore the other side of the fence, if you know what I mean. I let the thought pass through my mind, got intrigued for a few seconds, and then thought, “Extra-marital sex is such a hassle.” I’ve had several rather attractive men try to engage me in flirtatious banter, to which my response was little more than a barely stifled yawn. I couldn’t seem to be bothered. The capper was when a college student came to my house to display some kitchenwares in the hopes that I could help get him through school. My normal reaction to such a situation would be to dress in something slinky and play Bored Horny Housewife while he was here, in order to both entertain myself and create discomfort in him. Instead I sat across the table from him in my old sweatshirt, nodded politely, and pretended to be suitably impressed with the sharpness of his knives. It just seemed like too much work to figure out the line between subtle psychological torture and out-and-out tackiness. Besides, he had bad hair. Frankly, for anyone who knows me, this is behaviour that is positively unknown. The first few situations, well, they happen on occasion. But to pass up the chance to play head games on a stranger? Very, very strange. I think this strange behaviour on my part marks me going into a new stage of my life. Of late I’ve been, well… growing up a little. I’ve been feeling more focused, stronger, much more decisive about who I am and what I want out of life. For some reason, this has manifested itself in my sex life as well. Instead of looking outward for things to excite me, I’ve been spending more time by myself. And yes, that has meant a lot more time spent Glazing the Donut, if you get my drift. Enter the Mini Pearl…this is, after all, a sex toy review column. The Mini Pearl is a vibrating bullet, pretty much the same in construction as most of the other bullets on the market (although this one definitely seems to fall under the “sturdy” variety; I’ve seen some bullets that looked like they would break in two given half a chance). Its appearance is aggressively playful; the salmon pink exterior made me wince a little, but that was made up for with the glittery sticker stuck on the hand control. The sticker seemed to have no apparent purpose other than to sparkle prettily, and how can you not love that? Requiring two AA batteries, with a variable speed control, the Mini Pearl can be used for clitoral or nipple stimulation, with a sleeve (watch out for future reviews for more on this), and in a variety of other ways (“The only limit is your imagination!” she says, in a great, big, booming voice). While vibrating bullets are never going to get high marks from me in the “this blew my socks off!” department, I was completely satisfied with the Mini Pearl. The construction seems sturdy enough that it won’t stop working three weeks into the relationship, the glittery sticker is nonsensical and amusing to me, and it’s gotten me off more than a few times in the last 24 hours. This is one of those basic items that everyone should own at least one of, because it’s just so damn versatile. Invest and buy one that’s high quality (generally one that’s made in the US, Canada, Germany or Japan). You won’t regret it. - Joy LaFille is one of the goddesses-in-residence at insearchofsin, part of the Moxie network. As appearances might suggest, she spends a lot of her time thinking about sex.
